Our Work

From long-term partnerships to short-term needs to our own initiatives, we are working to remove the stigma surrounding kids mental health. We do this by creating and funding innovative, cutting-edge programs and solutions which have a direct impact on children and adolescents. Learn about the different aspects of our work below:

Our Process

YourMomCares funds innovative and impactful solutions to the mental wellness challenges facing today's kids, which means working with best in class partners. YMC vets prospective nonprofit partners through a process of research and relationship building, which ensures that your gift to YMC is funding only the best, most trusted organizations.

We are the Netflix of non-profits! We create our own content and fund the best content from others.

At YourMomCares, we do the work for you. If you believe that no child should suffer alone or be unable to receive mental health services because of the family’s financial situation, race, gender or sexual orientation, then support YourMomCares today.

UPMC

YourMomCares is revolutionizing mental healthcare for kids through projects like RxWell, a digital tool that motivates youth to learn and practice new coping skills for stress, anxiety, depression and suicide prevention as part of routine pediatric care in partnership with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (UPMC).

RxWell is prescribed by pediatricians for youth ages 16-22 who are experiencing anxiety, depression and/or suicidal ideation. Once downloaded to the child's phone, they are connected with a personal, mental health coach who guides them through the tools and techniques within the app. All usage and outcomes are fully integrated into the child's medical record. The app addresses the shortage of practitioners in mental health, long wait times for appointments and goes where the child already is: his/her/their cell phone.

The data from Phase one is extraordinary. Adolescents which used RxWell reported:

* 73% improvement in anxiety
* 57% improvement in depression

These results are so incredible that they were published in the Journal for Psychiatric Services, a top U.S. medical journal with YourMomCares noted as funder.

RxWell Phase 2 is currently underway and will continue to include a racially and socioeconomically diverse sample population from UPMC as well as new study participants Boston Children's Hospital (ranked #1 in the country) and Rady Children's Hospital San Diego. Ultimately, this is the final phase of research needed to treat every kid in this country with RxWell's groundbreaking system and technology.

Children’s Health Fund

Since early 2018, YourMomCares and Children’s Health Fund have been working together to raise awareness of the urgent need for physical health and mental health services for children. YourMomCares' goal is to ensure that CHF has sufficient resources to offer mental wellness and social service support to every child, at every program where CHF offers physical wellness services. YMC began in 2019 by funding a full time licensed clinical social worker at CHF's South LA locations. This has made mental health services available to more than 3,800 children annually and created “Rising Stars” the first ever group therapy program for homeless children living on Skid Row. This approach to health is precisely what is needed for kids to rise up and break the cycle of poverty.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, YourMomCares has worked closely with CHF to reallocate support where it is needed most during this public health crisis, including by funding testing, emergency healthcare services, laptop distribution to 30 youth for virtual learning and more.

 Our Initiatives

In addition to our long term partnerships, YMC has its own unique initiatives and campaigns:

Back to School Mental Wellness Checklist

Transitioning back to school can be a stressful time for children. YourMomCares releases an annual Mental Wellness Checklist (a play off the traditional Back to School Supply List) which helps parents

  1. support their child’s sense of self & self-worth

  2. provide coping mechanisms for handling stress and

  3. enhance their child’s functionality, productivity and sense of agency within their schools, homes and communities.

Creatives Create
Mentorship Program

In 2021, YourMomCares piloted its first mentorship program for youth living in at-risk communities. The program is a unique opportunity for a young person to learn skills from an expert in a field of interest to them. Whether design, music, theater or sport, YourMomCares is building a program where kids will learn from a master in their field and benefit from the emotional value of a mentor-mentee relationship.

Keeping it Real Blog

In July 2020, YourMomCares launched the “Keeping it Real” blog and social media content series for keeping it real in the mental health movement by sharing stories and experiences. The platform gives individuals a place to share their personal journeys living with anxiety, bipolar disorder, ocd, depression and more. Keeping it Real gives a face to mental health issues.
